We’re looking for an organised, supportive, and committed Production Team Lead to support our Workshop Supervisor with the coordination of work activities and resources for switchgear manufacturing in the workshop, ensuring that quality, safety, and efficiency is maintained at all times.

Your new role

As a team lead, you will be responsible for the operation of your allocated area within the Manufacturing department, supporting the Workshop Supervisor with the day-to-day management of workshop activities and requirements whilst working as a team member on the shop floor, to ensure product specification, deadlines and quality standards are achieved.

You will be responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating a team of fitter/wiremen, ensuring compliance with all company policies and health and safety regulations. You will provide line management to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the business.

As Team Leader you will be the point of contact for team members, therefore your communication skills should be excellent. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure a smooth and safe team operation, identifying and eliminating any safety, quality, or production issues in a prompt manner. You will embed lean management principles into your working area, eliminating waste and adding value to the business with new and improved processes where required. As part of your role, you will be expected to be agile and take a proactive and helpful approach to your duties, supporting the team with a wide range of tasks. You will set team workloads, carry out training of staff members and ensure employees work towards company goals and objectives.

You will support the development of the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, whilst fostering a culture of working safely.

You will be responsible for 5s and lean manufacturing within the working bay, this includes ensuring production paperwork is correctly filled out and within the set deadline, defects will be reported. You will be accountable for quality and equipment within the working area of your team.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Workshop Supervisor with planning workloads and delegating tasks to a team of fitter/wiremen in the production area to ensure efficiency and maximise output
  • Creating a productive, efficient work environment for the team using trust and other appropriate strategies
  • Act as an R&B Lean Champion ensuring workplace organisation is adhered to
  • Support continuous improvement across the business by eliminating waste and driving improvement of processes where applicable
  • Support the development of a skilled workforce by identifying training requirements, offering training and guidance to both new and existing fitter/wiremen
  • Demonstrate good communication skills with team members and management throughout the company
  • Communication of goals and deadlines to team members, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with progress, identifying and resolving any areas for concern
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes and procedures are compliant with the company’s policies and procedures, as well as Health and Safety requirements
  • Ensuring all production paperwork is complete correctly and within deadlines
  • Ensuring that the workshop work areas are clean and tidy according to R&B Standards
  • Maintain visible lead for adherence to procedures and instructions
  • Providing teams with information about recent developments, programmes, and policy changes of management
  • Foster a strong health and safety culture amongst your team

Your skills and background:
  • Ideally experience of working within an engineering workshop
  • Experience of leading small group activities to drive improvement ideas
  • Experience of assisting and developing (multi-skilled) people
  •  Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and recognised tools
  • Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap, and re-work
  • Ability to lead by example, gain respect from team and communicate with clarity whilst demonstrating excellence in approach to work and people activities
  • Ability to plan, analyse and challenge
  • Solid understanding of all people related processes and procedures
  • Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to problem solve and resolve conflicts
