We’re looking for a dynamic Payroll Specialist to join our Heywood division to oversee the delivery of power systems projects to provide world-class technical solutions, underpinned by an exceptional standard of service.
YOUR NEW ROLE
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees, in line with company policies, tax regulations, and UK labour laws. This role involves managing payroll data, processing transactions, and supporting the Senior Accountant in maintaining compliance.
While payroll is the primary focus, this position may also support the finance team with additional tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will bring a detail-oriented approach, strong organisational skills, and experience in payroll processing, ideally within a similar industry.
YOUR RESPONSIBILTIES
- Manage bi-weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and resolving discrepancies
- Calculate wages, benefits, deductions, bonuses, and verify timesheets and payroll data for compliance
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and employee changes
- Prepare and submit tax filings, payroll reports, and compliance documentation in line with UK regulations
- Address payroll-related queries, providing guidance on tax withholding and benefits
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to align payroll with company goals
- Assist with data entry, record management, document preparation, and reconciliation of payroll data
- Provide backup for Accounts Payable/Receivable and support monthly and annual financial close processes
- Help prepare financial reports, audits, and contribute to special projects as needed
YOUR SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
- A qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; or equivalent work experience in payroll.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing.
- Familiarity with payroll software systems (such as Xero, Sage or similar).
- Working knowledge of UK tax regulations and labour laws.
- Ability to analyse payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues accurately.
- Demonstrates high integrity and commitment to handling sensitive information securely.
- Provides clear and timely responses to employee inquiries, ensuring a positive employee experience.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with employees and management
- Adheres to legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining compliance in all payroll practices.
